Hello! I just found your YouTube channel, and am in the midst of binge watching all of your videos.
Apologies if this is a dumb question, but the video regarding the extra spaces in Commodore BASIC error messages reminded me of something I’ve wondered ever since I was little. When the C64 is powered on, is the “38911 BASIC BYTES FREE” message hard coded in the ROM, or is that number actually dynamic? If you had a program in memory and were able to trigger the message, would the number be smaller?
Hi Michael, sorry I didn’t notice your comment here earlier; it got marked as spam and needed approval. That’s not a dumb question at all. The bytes free is calculated at power-up by writing and reading RAM until it hits the BASIC ROM; if you have bad RAM in that BASIC area, then it’ll report back a smaller number.
HI!
Just want to let you know that I’m a big fan of your channel.
I was wondering… Are there more assembly videos planned? I learn so much from them.
Thankyou again for your good work on youtube.
Hi Alain, sorry I only just noticed there were comments waiting for approval, including yours. I do have more assembly tutorials planned; a follow-up episode to the sprite+joystick routine for sure and likely more. Thanks for your comment!
